Charlie Baum

Charlie Baum has been associated with MTC since the very opening dinner of the original Sulzberger program in January 2007. While helping build the foundation, accomplishments, and goodwill of the Sulzberger program through 2018, Charlie coached 71 of the 247 Fellows, helped design and lead 60 program sessions, and heard 989 Fellow updates (give or take a couple!)!

Charlie has worked for many years across sectors with program founder Doug Smith in the arena of performance-driven change — the critical concepts that underlay the original Sulzberger program and now MTC. He also helped establish and lead the Knight Table Stakes Program at the University of North Carolina’s Hussman School.

Experience

Charlie's work in performance-driven change has been profiled in "The Wisdom of Teams" by Doug Smith, "High Impact Consulting" by Robert Schaffer, "Masterful Coaching" by Robert Hargrove and Vice President Gore’s book "The Best Kept Secrets in Government."

Current

Charlie’s work has spanned the public and private sectors, as a management consultant, coach, and senior executive — always with an emphasis on achieving early wins and momentum against urgent, major from/to performance challenges (hallmark of MTC program).

Expertise

Charlie holds a B.A. in Economics and Psychology from Harvard University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
