The Media Transformation Challenge (MTC) Class of 2025 wrapped up the second week of its year-long fellowship at the Poynter Institute last week, marking another milestone in their transformational journeys.

Media Transformation Challenge Knight Fellow Ethar El-Katatney (’25) earned her journalism bona fides in Cairo, Egypt, before the revolution there motivated a move the United States. After a decade in roles at AJ+, The Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg, Ethar joined Documented, a non-profit newsroom dedicated to reporting with and for immigrant communities in New York City, the day after the election.

2024 Fellow and Managing Editor Emma Patti, began her MTC Journey in January with the challenge of transforming her fledgling, city-centric startup to a more performance-oriented newsroom serving all of Maryland.
